The young baritone Ludwig Mittelhammer, born in Oktober 1988 in Munich, has been a member of the Nuremberg State Oper since the 2017/18 season, following two years at the Frankfurt Opera Studio from 2015 to 2017.

In 2014, he was awarded First Prize of the International Song Competition of the Hugo Wolf Academy in Stuttgart, Germany, together with his pianist Jonathan Ware. With the Felix-Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Competition at the University of Arts in Berlin, he received a special award for the best interpretation of a Goethe song by composer Wolfgang Rihm.

Ludwig Mittelhammer received an early training at the famous Tölzer Boys Choir.  He completed his vocal studies with Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. In addition, he took part in masterclasses with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Brigitte Fassbaender, Ann Murray, and Edith Wiens.

Ludwig Mittelhammer has been invited by renowned orchestras including the Orchestre de Paris, the Swedish Radio Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Symphony, Bamberg Symphony, Concerto Köln, and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. He has collaborated with eminent maestri such as Daniel Harding, Jaap van Zweden, Ulf Schirmer, and Alexander Liebreich, among others.

Highlights of 2017 and 2018 include concerts with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Daniel Harding at Stockholm’s Berwaldhallen (Schumann: Das Paradies und die Peri, Mozart Mass in c Minor), Bruckner Masses with the RIAS Kammerchor in Berlin, Telemann cantatas with NDR Choir and Akademie für Alte Musik in Hamburg as well as song recital debuts at important venues such as London Wigmore Hall, Berlin’s new Boulez Hall, and the Muziekgebouw in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

At the Frankfurt Opera, Ludwig Mittelhammer sang the roles of Marullo in „Rigoletto“ and Schaunard in „La Bohème“, and in the 2017/18 season he can be heard in major roles such as Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Danilo (The Merry Widow) at the Nuremberg State Theatre.
